         The first step in providing a  comprehensive lightning protection solution for any facility is to design and install direct strike area protection. Such protection would include the following components:
Lightning air terminal for the controlled capture of the lightning discharge.
Down conductors for the safe passage of the lightning energy to ground.
A dedicated lightning earth for the safe dissipation of the lightning energy.

 

 

 

 

         As a step forward from conventional lightning protection components, LPI offers the Guardian System 5 as an advanced lightning protection system which adopts key fundamentals and concepts from the latest lightning research in the design of its system components. 
         The LPI Guardian CAT series of terminals are effective Controlled Advanced Triggering devices which intercept lightning discharges and attaches them to a preferred point.  The design of the Guardian range of terminals is based on modern lightning research which has hightlighted key concepts for the optimum operation of an air terminal.

         Given that man is unable to prevent a lightning strike, it has been widely accepted that the best approach is to control the lightning strike by establishing a preferred point where the lightning should strike.
   There are multiple solutions and technologies that can be considered when designing for direct strike lightning pro- tection. LPI offers traditional methods along with the latest advances in technology.

 

 

 

 

 

         Once the lightning has been captured at a preferred point, the energy is safely conveyed to ground through the purpose designed LPI High Voltage Shielded Cable(HVSC). The High Voltage Shielded Cable provides a high integrity low impedance method of conveying the energy to ground whilst minimising the risk of side-flashing.
         Our HVSC is particularly effective on structures containing high-density human occupancy and those which contain sensitive electronic equipment, volatile liquids / gases and other sensitive applications.
